Harald Bonsel

Harald Bonsel’s passion for helping the hearing impaired dates back to his childhood; his family has owned one of the largest and most successful hearing aid shops in the Frankfurt area of Germany since 1957.

In 1973 Mr. Bonsel began his career working in his father’s hearing aid shop. He made his examination for the master’s certificate in 1979.  He then worked as an acoustician for several years, while also developing new software that could help computerize audiological measurements.

In 1984 he combined his experience as an electrical engineer, acoustician, and software developer with his passion for helping individuals with hearing loss when he established Acousticon Horsysteme GmbH in Frankfurt, Germany.

His career, education, and practice in fitting hearing aids, and his in-depth understanding of both the needs of hearing aid professionals and the hearing impaired made him uniquely qualified to develop the initial ACAM hearing aid fitting system.  This innovative system was the first fully integrated fitting system.

Other companies have since followed Acousticon’s lead and created integrated systems, but thanks to Mr. Bonsel’s leadership, passion for excellence, and continuous innovation, no system has surpassed the ACAM for ease of use and consistently exceptional outcomes.

In addition to his position as CEO of Acousticon GmbH, Mr. Bonsel has been a docent and educator of acousticians since 1979 at Akademie in Lubek, the largest German university offering educational programs in hearing aid fitting. He is also the CEO of Horgerate Bonsel, which includes 21 hearing aid shops in the Frankfurt Area.  Additionally, he is an examiner for the acoustician profession and the vice president of the European Union of Hearing Aid Acousticians (EUHA).
